Clarinet Excerpts in Context--A Teaching Method

Richie Hawley giving young clarinetists a taste of what it feels like to play those famous solos from the excerpt books live and in context with the other instruments in the orchestra:

Could be pretty scary sitting out there in front and having to get the rhythm, blend, balance, intonation, and phrasing (to say nothing of the right notes and articulation) just right, with no place to hide, and all the eyes of the orchestral players on you.

Well........that's kinda sorta where you are planning to be if you are pursuing classical clarinet as a career. I think it becomes more apparent that there are actually musical considerations involved doing it this way.
