There is a Selmer clarinet being offered on that auction site that has me confused. It is being advertised as a Centered Tone and has the speaker tube bushing of a Centered Tone or Series 9. The throat G# key has the metal peg of a Series 9 rather than the cork bumper of a Centered Tone. Meanwhile, on the other side of the upper joint, there is no model designation below the Selmer logo and it does not appear to have had any markings removed. I sent a note to the seller asking how it had been identified as a Centered Tone and asking about matching serial numbers and got no response. I don't seem to be the only one feeling there is something off since it has only a relatively low "buy it now" price, has been listed about six times since Christmas, and has had lots of watchers but no buyers. This one comes out of Texas. Any idea what it might be?

When a peculiar listing appears for the first time on That Auction Site, I tend to give the dealer the benefit of the doubt and assume s/he has made an honest mistake, since some dealers who don't specialize just buy up whatever they can find cheap in the "Get Rid of It" marketplaces, in hopes of making a profit, without knowing what the fiddle-dee-dee they're doing. But when a listing appears, then re-appears, then re-appears . . . my "Uh-Oh" buzzer goes off.
