 Touching Up Wood Scratches

Is there an acceptable way of touching up thin but very noticable scratches on a wooden clarinet?

The "Mover's secret weapon" is a closely matched magic marker (sometimes two colors, layered) covered by a buffed coating of paste wax.

Binney & Smith crayons are good, the Art store near you will have oil based crayons that may do the trick, too.
