Finding out what clarinet I have

Thanks to those who replied to my post last week. Sorry I didn't get back in to check for replies until today, but you know how life can pile up sometimes!

I tried ebay at your suggestion, but gave up quickly, it's too slow and not all have pictures, maybe I'll try again.

I'm sorry I didnt' have much information before. It seems like an older clarinet, it's wood and not plastic or polymer etc. I will try cleaning any gunk off of the brand to see if I can get anything.

Thanks for the tips. I'll try to check in more frequently.

WHAT IS A HENKIN CLAIRNET, IT HAS A GOOD FEEL TO IT, LOW TONE, I GUESS B FLAT, BOUGHT SECOND HAND, HAS BEAUTIFUL CASE, IN GOOD CONDITION, PLEASE REPLY. THANK YOU

Another trick (after getting the gunk off it) is to take it out into *BRIGHT* sunlight and look at it. This also makes it easier to see. We often fail to realize how dim even brightly lit rooms really are.

Henkin is an inexpensive, student level clarinet. It is not as good as the student lines of Buffet, Yamaha, Leblanc or Selmer. Actually most clarinets have a good sound if well adjusted and set up with good mouthpiece and tuning. Where the lower grade brands suffer is accuracy of pitch note to note and in quality of construction.

Henkin clarinets were made by United Musical Instruments (makers of Conn, Artley, and who knows or cares what else), named after the then-owner Donald J. Henkin (who may still be the owner, for all I know).
As a side note, I used to own a soprano sax, actually made in Germany by Keilwerth but marketed (in the early 80's, as I recall) in the States as the "Conn DJH Modified", wherein "DJH" stood for Donald J. Henkin. This line of horns had previously been marketed by Armstrong and Herb Couf, and is currently sold directly under the Keilwerth name (and of course Keilwerth is now owned by Boosey & Hawkes, who also own Buffet and other brands, yada yada yada...)
