Ever tried it? I did today, and WOW! It is so much easier! I can't believe I never thought of it before....

I think its also a lot easier in the firebird complete ballet, on the eb clarinet.

Yeah, it lays so much better under the fingers, and IMO so far, it sounds more fluid. Of course I have played it on A forever and worked really hard at it, but on Bb it just works better... And now I am wondering if the entire suite would be less complicated on Bb... Seems probable.

What a good idea! Just tried it! I stumbled around a bit transposing at sight, but after a few readings it is fun! Still needs work though. It's not easy in any key.
Yes, someone should transpose it and charge a few bucks. I'd buy a copy.

It's actually for D clarinet - even easier!

In the complete ballet a lot of those A parts in the Suite are in the Eb-D part. In his suite he used a much reduced orchestration. No Eb or Bass part as in the Ballet. Very difficult bass part by the way.

Well, Ed, it depends on which Suite you are referring to. True, the 1919 and 1945 Suites do not use D (don't remember any Eb in original ballet) or Bass, but the 1911 Suite does.

Karl, Thanks so much for posting that.
If I showed up to a behind the screen audition and used that part, would the committee notice? What about a recorded audition?
Would it be grounds for dismissal? Anyone have any thoughts or experience on this? Thanks.
