Hello all,
I am a Montreal freelancer and have been working for about a year now to assemble a chamber music ensemble which combines music and film.
My ensemble is taking existing works in the chamber music repertoire and having an emerging cinematographer create films inspired by the music. The music will be featured as a live soundtrack of the film at our performances. (Like a small scale-low-budget-non-animated version of Disneys Fantasia.)
It took me over a year to organize everything but we just booked our debut. Our first concert will feature the Trios of Beethoven and Brahms and the second concert (which is being booked for the spring) will feature the Quartet for the End of Time in its entirety.
For anyone who has ever launched an independent project I would like to hear any advice you have. These days I feel like maybe I should have gotten a degree in business rather than performance. Its been a fantastic learning experience.
...and in a valiant attempt to appear technologically savvy I created a facebook page and thought that some of you here might be willing to give us a like or share our page with people you think might be interested!
www.facebook.com/musique.visuelle
Thanks!
Christine

It sounds like you are in a very good position to generate a lot of creative, new and novel content. Maybe someone at Cirque du Soleil has some helpful suggestions. If you come south, please post.
