Ryan Pereira Barrels

Hello All,

I was recently given the opportunity to try out some of Ryan Pereira's barrels and I'd like to share my thoughts. A Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with Ryan's company in any way.

Admittedly, when Ryan gave me a pair of his barrels to try, I was skeptical at first. As far as I am aware, he is the only maker to utilize 3D printing, which is still a fairly new technology. However, after I had got the chance to play each barrel, I was amazed at the response and sound which I was able to achieve.

I find the Pereira barrels to have a truly ideal amount of resistance, which leads to excellent response. The articulation is neither overly strident and difficult, nor does it choke off on an accent or staccato. This is a balance that I have been unable to find with several other barrels.

In terms of sound, Ryan's barrels do not sound too different from what I had been using previously....and that's a good thing! Having played on Grenadilla, delrin, and now Ryan's 3D printed material, I am becoming more and more convinced that with a good design, many different materials can be utilized successfully. To those skeptic about synthetic materials versus wood, I urge you to try Ryan's products. For me, the results spoke for themselves.

They're pretty rough looking in the photos. If the bores and sockets are reamed to smooth them up I don't see any difference in barrels produced by anybody else. There are more barrel makers than you can count, but what the heck, more power to him. It will be hard to beat what Backuun and Fobes offer.
