I have a new Vandoren CL4 mouthpiece, which I tested yesterday. Bottom line, with the reeds that worked better (after just one short round of tests...), the mouthpiece is much easy blowing, louder, focused, clear, and with better sound than my original Leblanc K10M.
La Voz MH: Best result
Rico Royal 3 : OK
Vandoren V21 3 : Cannot make it work
I thought the Vandorens V21 would be a good match for the mouthpiece, but they do not work for me neither in the k10M nor in the CL4...
Who else has tried the V21?
I know that I am a beginner, and I should not doing this, but such is life and I guess that, because of personality issues, this is the way I approach new stuff...

I would say that if the La Voz product works best for you then you should continue to use that brand of reed.
I too use the CL4 and find the Vandoren V21s or the Rue Lepic to be the best match for me. The important aspect to reeds that you should keep in mind is that they are NOT like a clarinet. You cannot pick one up cold and expect to know all about it in three minutes. Vandorens are cut to be a little more robust, so they are a GREAT example of reeds that need to be 're-hydrated' over time to play properly. A short play test on a each reed in a box of about 3-5 minutes per day (NO MORE THAN THAT) for about 4-6 days should get you to the point where you can better judge the quality of the reed.
But that said, you have found a better match for you self at the moment and no matter what the rest of us do, you need to stick with what works.

I read that you know very well and like a lot the CL4 - that was one of the tipping points for me to get it.
Which strength are you using for the V21?

My old teacher that used the CL5 liked the V12s on it. . So did I when I tried the CL4 and CL5. 3.5+ for the 4 and 3.5 for the 5.

I think I have gotten used to a reed strength that is a bit harsh, but just can't seem to play anything else. It is also the ONLY constant in my playing over the years no matter the mouthpiece or the facing (though in the last ten years the facings have gotten closer).
I play #4 Vandoren. Up to 2005 I exclusively played the standard cut reed. A friend gave me a rejected box of #4 Rue Lepic in 2004 and I played that cut ever since. Of course now Vandoren has this lovely new reed, the V21 that is MORE than just a combination between the Lepic and the V12. I guess I'll stick with these for a while.
