 Maestro Mouthpieces

Can anybody tell me about these maestro mouthpieces?

They're priced relatively nicely at $60.00, but I can only find it for that price on Reverb (which states they're new).

For the most part I am confused as to the naming scheme between these mouthpieces and whether or not they're quality mouthpieces

Here's the links to them

They all look to be the same in physical appearance, and their prices are all in lockstep at $60.00

As I stated previously I'm just looking for anyone who knows about or has experience with these, as I have not been able to find any online information on them or reviews.

Tip opening charts used to be readily more available. I did some research and all I could find was the following:

http://shop.weinermusic.com/GIGLIOTTI-MAESTRO-Bb-CLARINET-MOUTHPIECE-A442/productinfo/MG1442/

At the very bottom, #4 is listed as the largest tip opening that is made in this series and is simply described as "OPEN".

Per the following link and looking at the black "Tip Openings" chart, "OPEN" registers around 1.20mm or 0.047" tip opening.

Please note that the Gigliotti Maestro clarinet mouthpieces appear to be designed for 442 pitch.

Can anyone tell me about whether they're worth buying?

Assuming they're based on the original Gigliotti facings, P is a long curve with a tip opening of about .97-.99 mm. P34 was a shorter curve with the same tip opening. #2 was a little more open, maybe 1.02-1.04 mm with the shorter curve of the P34. If the #4 is as open as Dan is guessing, it would be an entirely new entry into the scheme. Gigliotti himself would never have been involved with anything that open.

Keep in mind that the current mouthpieces (Maestros or Gigliottis) are not necessarily the same as the older ones were when he was alive and keeping his eye on them. I don't think the quality is as high as it once was, but the whole Maestro line was started well after his death, so he had nothing directly to do with them.

Is it worth buying? Depends on what you expect from it. I think there are other intermediate mouthpieces around by people who are still actively involved in their production that are worth looking at.

Karl
