 Unknown Bass Clarinet Brand

I was watching a video of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra play Tchaikovsky's Pas De Duex and when the bass clarinet solo started it showed who was playing it and the bass clarinet looked really unusual.

It starts at around 2:20

It's an Oehler system bass clarinet. The clarinets don't seem to show up in this video, but they're different too.

Edit: I take that back, you can see them at 4:40.

Very different sound as well - the German basses have a more focussed sound compared to the broad sound of French basses.

Here's a photo of a typical Oehler system bass:

Compare it with a typical Boehm system bass:

I know this isn't the earliest use of the I-vi-IV-V chord sequence that was popular in the '50s, but does anyone know an earlier use of this chord sequence?

More notably, it is perfectly fine for excerpts from the Nutcracker to be played at a random concert during the Summer in Europe - not just relegated to Christmas.

Good music is good music people! Maybe we just need more of that in our concert halls instead of the glitz and showmanship........just wonderin'.

That's Waldbühne in Berlin. Isn't it fantastic? All that people with their lighters. I think many of them would never enter a concert hall. I'll never forget the atmosphere one evening there with Andris Nelsons, Helene Grimaud and percussionist Martin Grubinger. It was raining a bit, but nobody cared.

I personally own a Martin Foag Oehler system bass and I strongly prefer its sound more the French basses'. It sounds a lot more natural playing the late Romantic reperatoire and also sounds better in country and folk music(but regrettably not jazz), especially Tango. Furthermore the Oehler bass blends better with other clarinets(both German/French) and other woodwinds as well. I double on French clarinets and on the Oehler bass, and I am very happy with the combo, and changing between Oehler and Boehm systems is alright to me.
However, such instruments need modification on tuning to make them work in American, British or other orchestras outside German, Netherlands and Austria. Also most of these instruments can be very costly(at 20K USD) except Martin Foag's instrument(11K USD).
If you like the sound of the Oehler bass and need some help on choosing, contact me as you please! :)

I like my Oehler-system bass too (an F. Arthur Uebel), except it doesn't work so well in our Lithuanian punk-folk metal zydeco rap band, where the Boehm-system bass has a slight edge (I measured 13%).
