The New York Philharmonic digital archives is a terrific resource that lets you view, among other things, the actual clarinet parts used by Drucker, Bellison, etc... and other visiting orchestra principal players when they came to New York and used the NYP parts in performance.

As most know, Drucker always put his signature on the last page of every part he played and most every part shows that. Interesting to also see the signatures of Schmidl, Zukofsky, and other principal players who followed that tradition when using the parts.

Most fascinating is seeing the actual markings of the parts which were used in performance - tempo changes, dynamics, reminders, cuts, etc... Surprisingly there are far fewer fingerings put into the parts then I would have expected, but some of the interpretive markings in the major clarinet excerpts are quite revealing.

Just to give you a quick sample - here is Scheherazade (click on the part and then each page to turn)

Dances of Galanta:

It's a treasure trove of fun to scan through the parts - It takes a bit of searching but it's well worth the effort.

Have fun... http://archives.nyphil.org/

So they got rid of the clefs that were superimposed all over the parts.

Originally they didn't have them, then did, now don't

The parts are not meant to be copied, but rather are just for study. The watermarks are not a terrible problem since you can enlarge or shrink the page to see around them.

The whole digital library is such a treasure trove of performance information that it's certainly worth perusing many of the standard works just to see the interpretive markings.

Yup - those watermarks are annoying though.

I "saw" it all before the watermarks were up. Navigating it on an iPad is rough with the watermarks.

Ah yes, the ol' "eyeglasses" markings.

Always a standard.

Markings in red are a bad idea. They disappear under red lights. I found out the hard way many years ago.
