I have a R-13 now and it has started to crack on a regular basis..... (every winter) no matter how carefull I am. I am curious about the Buffet R-13 Greenline. How does this wood composite do in a real world setting? Any feed would be great, please email me at smontney@ewu.edu. (Computer problems make getting on the internet a bit tricky.

The greenline is guaranteed forever against cracking, and I know that it stands up to the extreme dryness in Arizona (Bob Spring of U of Arizona plays one).

My girlfriend goes to college in Durango, CO. All of the clarinet players but her play buffet green lines because of the cold and dryness. They never crack. But I don't think they have that classic clarinet sound.

There have been a significant number of posters to this board that have reported that the Greenlines sound identical to their wooden counterparts ESPECIALLY in a blind test where no one can see which instrument is being played. So I think each person has to try it out for themselves.
The reports have been favorable enough that if Leblanc were to come out with a comparable material in their pro horns, I would give it a try.

I don't think they come in silver though, as the Woodwind and Brasswind do not list one. I may be wrong though. It also says in there that there is a 3 year warranty for the body, not forever. Are there any other free catalogs out there besides WW and BW? I do like to flip through them when I bored.

They are available in silver plated finish.. just ask your dealer.. I'm looking into one now myself... and as for the sound... they play just about the same as "Real" wood clarinets... (unless you want to drag this topic through the mud as has been done numerous times on the list) I just had the pleasure of seeing Nick Brignola play on an R13 Greenline.. Wow... he plays everything... and there is no way on this earth you could tell what the instrument was made of!! Wood, Steel, Plastic, Greenline... Cement!!

Buffet makes 95% grenadilla and some proprietary bondage material to make body of greenlines. They take grenadilla tips produced through making of real grenadilla bodied clarinet, which is the reason why they are cheaper than ordinary R-13.Maybe the difference of price means the grenadilla material price.
They say we can play long from the first moment,no need to break-in and they are strong to severe ambient temperatures.
I am interested in this notion and its price. If only it's not R-13.I need RC-greenline or RC-Prestige-greenline!!

THe Greenline costs the same over here as the regular, which is about $1650 (the best price I find). Buffet doesn't make RC Greenlines or Prestige RC Greenline, but only the regular R13.

Buffet does make RC and Prestige RC greenlines according to a question asked last year in Klarinet - but not many. They can be special ordered.

Many misunderstandings including mine about greenlines cost issue is excluding tooling depreciation cost.Cost components of instruments will be like any other products
materials+machining manpowers+machining and tooling's depreciation+tooling O&M. (O&M=Operation and Maintenance cost).Depreciation period depends on each country's regulation. After this period,it becomes the only residual book price such as 10%.New manufacturing process needs a new tooling whereas conventional process needs no depreciation cost.
