He seems very straight-up and professional in his listings on "that auction site".
He's very active on that site and has contacted me regarding some of my auctions. He contacted me regarding a Kaspar I was selling, wondering why anyone should bother spending the money on that when they could buy a Behn Vintage that was customized for them instead.
Since then, there have been kaspars going for TWICE that much. Since then, I have bought two Behn Vintages. =) We were both right it seems.
I think he's knowledgeable and trustowrthy and would give him my vote of confidence, even though I haven't done business with him.

Mark is a good friend and trusted colleague. I've not only personally bought instruments from him, but I've also referred colleagues and students.
In past years, from Mark, I've gotten an early 1960's era Buffet R13 A clarinet that was fabulous as well as a superb Selmer Series 9 Eb clarinet.
In each case the instruments were even better than described and I use them professionally, daily.
Disclaimer - Mark did give me a "professional courtesy discount" on pricing, but even if I had paid the original asking price, it still would have been an excellent bargain.

I've bought instruments from Mark on eBay several times, and I totally trust him. His repair tech is excellent and all their clarinets have arrived in perfect condition.

A positive experience here too. Bought a clarinet from him many years ago from Ebay. I returned it because it wasn't as good as the instrument I had at the time, but it was advertised correctly, a good price, and exactly what I expected. cpaok has absolutely no complaints from me.

Yup, he's a straight up seller and knows what he's dealing in.
I've had Music Stores (including a big name in NYC) advertise a Clarinet that wasn't correctly described - nickel keys being described as silver, etc.
Who you deal with can make a really big difference.

While you all are having a cpaok love-fest, I had a rather different experience with him some years ago (granted, it was about a decade ago). But in order to be a Good Guy I won't say any more about it.

No matter how great a merchant is there will always be someone that isn't happy. His eBay feedback suggests to me that he is trying to do the right thing.

FYI GLH, my issues were not as a customer, but as a potential "subcontractor" to cpaok. Long story, years ago, not worth getting into.

I have known Mark for a number of years and he has always been very professional and honest. I believe that his 100% positive rating on that auction site is the most unbiased evidence for his credibility with customers.
Disclaimer - Mark uses many of my products and receives only the normal trade discount. I have only purchased accessories from him at the advertised price.

In the last 12 months CPAOK has a 100% positive rating over 162 sales. I had to go back to Sept. 2004 before I found one red mark - at > 900 green symbol sales . The thread that you reference is from 2004.

Bought from him in the (many mpcs and clarinets) but I must say he is sometimes too moody (?arrogant) sometimes. I recently asked a question about a mpc on his auction site (tip size for comparison of the 44 year old mpc to a new one made today) and he sent a rather terse( ?nice term for "don't bother me boy") reply. Maybe there was a reason (finances, health, medications, fight with wife, throbbing hemorrhoids etc) but that nasty attitude may be ok based upon his northeast coast background but not with me.
Since I didn't purchase the item I could only take him off my favorite seller list.
I am thankful there so many reputable sellers to chose from today and that I really don't need anything (you know getting your "needs" and "wants"confused based upon boredom) much less another overpriced mouthpiece for the "drawer".

Dumb questions deserve "terse" answers. Most of us know that two mouthpieces--even made on the same day from the same model of blank with identical specifications--will play differently. So it is not reasonable to expect a detailed comparison between vintage and new because what really matters is up to the player and discovered through audition of the piece. Cpaok has probably heard this question a million times and has grown tired of replying at length. Bottom line, he is as honest a dealer as you will find, anywhere and will go to great lengths to accommodate you if you are not satisfied with the product. However, satisfaction is up to you and is not something that anyone can guarantee of predict. 'Nuff said..........have a good day.
