For those of you who do not necessarily follow Martin Frost's Facebook page, he recently agreed to accept questions of a more or less technical nature concerning the art of clarinet playing and the equipment he uses. He received so many questions, mostly from aspiring clarinetists, that he is answering them in little batches, as time permits.
His latest batch of answers:

Among other things, he establishes the fact that he has no intention of switching from his accustomed Chadash barrels to Backun barrels, he plays # 4 Rico reeds, practices Tanta yoga and breathing exercises daily, currently owns 12 clarinets, and continues to play James Kanter mouthpieces, as he has for the past 15 years, to give him a "darker sound." He recommends an approach to staccato taught by professor Hermann Stefansson of the Royal Academy at Stockholm.
At the very least, this developing source of information may correct some of the wilder speculations about his clarinet-playing preferences.

Hmmm, I have more clarinets than MF....but that just proves quantity has nothing to do with quality.
