I'm wondering if anyone can direct me to a recording of CH playing a definable clarinet solo?
I finished playing through a 10 CD boxed set recently and have searched Youtube ''coleman hawkins clarinet'' but of course one gets multiple links to videos/recordings containing one or more of the search words. Can a Youtube search be made more specific perhaps?
Many thanks in anticipation - JK

Hot and Anxious, 1931 with Fletcher Henderson. That's Hawk on clarinet.

Also, he plays clarinet but doesn't solo with Bessie Smith: Alexander's Ragtime Band and Muddy Water.

I never knew "the Bean" played clarinet! Of course, Lester Young did (a metal clarinet). I have a disc put together by the French that brings together all his recordings on clarinet. His sound and style are unique. I also heard a recording of Paul Desmond playing clarinet; with exactly the same tone he used on alto sax. My favourite saxophonist playing clarinet is Phil Woods. He actually studied clarinet at Julliard.

I've got one with Al Cohn playing bass clarinet!
Gotta love the tone that Hawkins gets on "Hot and Anxious".
