F. Arthur Uebel Bb Clarinet

I have an old F. Arthur Uebel Bb clarinet, serial number 9821, that belonged to my grandfather. I do know that it was definitely made before 1960. I was wondering about the history of this instrument, including the year it was built and its worth. I can attach pictures if necessary--it's a very beautiful instrument. It's in its original case along with two mouthpieces, including a glass one. I'm pretty sure it's an Oehler system clarinet. If anyone has any info on it I would highly appreciate it. If more information is required in order to find out more, please let me know and I will do my best to provide it.

I emailled the Uebel company to "date" a clarinet last year, and while the reply wasn't immediate they did get back to me a week or so later.

Perhaps you will understand a little bit of the informations given by Dr. Enrico Weller even if you don't speak german:
1. period 1936 - 1963
private company F.A.Uebel in Markneukirchen (this means: the instruments were made by F.A.Uebel himself as owner of the company; Uebel died in 1963, and 1972, because unfortunately situated in East Germany, the company was socialized)

Serial numbers of the 1. period:
7000 or 8000 up to 17.800

So presumably you have an instrument of the "first period". These instruments are indeed very fine and very much appreciated, even today. The keywork is more slender and filigree than the keywork of german clarinets today.

Hi again, I took Donald's advice and decided to email the Uebel company a few days ago. Luckily, I received a prompt reply and JKL was correct. Here is the email from the company--

Dear Sirs,

thank you for your message.
Your instrument is most probably made from the old Master F. Arthut Uebel himself.
Unfortunately we do not have any records from that time, to determine the date when it was made. Wishing you all the best with this nice instrument.
