I like Hite mouthpieces, particularly the D model. His Premiere mouthpiece is good for younger students, and I also recommend them for high school marching band.

I play his J series and highly recommend it.

These are really nice players, particularly with a #2 - #2 1/2 reed.

They need to be handled carefully, if dropped they are likely to break.

Clean it with soap and water once each week.

Place a mouthpiece pad on top and it will last quite a long time.

When you start playing well, save your money to buy one of Chris Hill's mouthpieces (they're terrific!).

This is a good choice Corey, and should be less than $30.

I also agree, many are good, especially the D facing.

Corey,

I also have an M41 series. This facing plays very nice, but I like the J better. The M is just a bit too closed for me. And yes, both models play very well in the altissimo registers.

The Hite Premier is also a fine mouthpiece, but it is plastic. It plays very much like the J model. In my opinion the Premier plays nicer than many of the popular professional models, including many of the Vandorens.

I also play a Hite and like it very much. I play an M41 and find it to be very easy to play, easy to control and get a good sound on. It's pretty "reed-friendly" although i tend to be pretty pick about reeds...i use 3-1/2 Steuers (Zondas work pretty well for me too, but they die quickly and abruptly). I use the Premiere also in a number of settings--outdoor band concerts and such, or in the pit. I also recommend it to students, many of whom are using the mouthpieces which came with their Vitos...

In the altissimo the mouthpiece works well for me, although (for me) if a mouthpiece works well in other registers it will work well in altissimo as well anyway. High C is not a problem with a good reed.

I played a hite 121 D for abour 5 years, but have moved since to the Greg Smith 1*. I love both mouthpieces and think they are both of great quality. My Hite, which i have since passed to another friend here at college who needed a new mouthpiece to play on. She was playing some student line Vito thing.
I have also played the M41 and I also own a Premier. The premier I use for marching band. It's cheap, I've already had to replace one form breakage(bad lightening/tornado story, too much to go into) and they're cheap, about $20. The Premeirs play wonderfuly for being a plastic mouthpiece, but they are amazingly really well faced. The other thing I like about the Premier is that I can really lay back and blow the heck out of the thing on the field and it keep some sort of center in the pitch.
Hites are great mouthpieces for being mass produced. They are consistent and well made. I would reccomend using the mouthpiece patch, they do seem to get divots from your teeth quicker than other mouthpieces, but this is NO reason to not buy one. Try all the facings to be safe. I also found, at least now, that i need at least a 4 Vandoren V12 reed to get a nice pitch, but then again, I play on sticks for reeds most of the time.
Good luck

I played on a J for a while until I got a custom. I liked it very much and I keep it for my A when I have to do quick changes (there's all of three measures to switch in the Grieg piano concerto).
