Ok clarinet folks, help out your sax brother one more time...the show I'm playing has a fermata trill from G to Bb (immediately above the staff). Any trick fingerings to make this trill smooth and controlled?

I would be tempted to slide my first finger (LH) over onto the Bb cup like the bis key on your sax. Then, just "trill" the other two fingers. There is a similar passage in "Peter and the Wolf" and for that, I installed a Runyon bis key on my A--works like a charm. The Runyon also works on the Bb.
I suppose you could hold the clarinet bell between your knees and use your right hand first finger to hold the Bb pad down. Tricky, but if your fast......might work.

William's suggestion is the standard work around for the troublesome G to Bb tremolo.
However, a lesser known (and more adventurous) solution is to play the G as an F with the left pinky G# key open. Then, tremolo to Bb by using the 1/1 (xoo/xoo) fingering for Bb.

This is a doddle on clarinets fitted with the forked Eb/Bb mechanism (extra ring for LH3) - simply play the G (xxx|ooo) and lift LH2 (xox|ooo) for the Bb. Works perfectly as a C-Eb tremolo in the lower register as the Eb is in tune with the forked fingering, unlike long Bb (xoo|xoo) which gives a sharp Eb in the lower register.
Only you won't find it as an option on clarinets from the big name makers, even though they used to offer it as an option before the accountants took over running the shop.
It can be built and fitted to any clarinet, but will be expensive - I built and fitted this mechanism to my plastic Yamaha so I could use the forked Eb/Bb fingerings as I do on my other clarinets:

You can buy a Bis key from Stephen Fox which attaches to the LH2 ring key rod, so you can play Bb with the Bis fingering as you would on sax.

I was just doing some quick graces from "Bb" using the German fingering for "Bb" which is the "G" sitting on the staff just removing the 2nd finger of the left hand (not really in tune on a Boehm...... but it gets you by). I did not execute this as a trill (and I'm not able to play at this hour) so I don't know if the sound will hold as a trill - just thought I'd throw that out there.

Great tips, thanks! At rehearsal last night I was playing this with the standard fingering and it sounded great for about two seconds...and then deteriorated into some random blur as the conductor held the note. One of those moments when you think "I got this...wait...uh oh...noooooo"!

Another option:
Play the G and tremolo to Bb by removing the thumb and register key.

This last fingering (thumb and register key) is the one that works best for me, thanks!

I have a trill chart on my fingering chart on my web page, it's on the last page.
G-Bb, play the G and lift the first finger in the left hand to trill the Bb. It only sounds good in a trill, not if you try to sustain it. Funny, I just checked my chart and I don't have that listed. I have it listed for G# to Bb though. It should work from the G as well. I'll have to try it tomorrow myself. Give it a try anyway. :-)
