Hello clarinetters!
So, I am at a folk music week and I just broke my mouthpiece (aaaaugh)
I had a Vandoren CL4 which I really liked a lot except that it's so sharp. I was thinking, well, maybe I can use this as an opportunity to mouthpiece shop but really I was pretty happy with the one I had. I just had to pull out a lot, although that's not even cutting it right now in the un-air conditioned HUMID 95 degrees. So I'm wondering if I should get another CL4 and barrel shop instead since I'm going to be spending money anyways.
I have a fairly new Buffet R13, what size barrel should I try? How do I arrange to try some barrels out? Any and all advice is welcome
OH - uh, if it matters, the style of music I play nowadays is pretty much folk dance music. Contra dances, English dances, that type of thing. So a sweet but flexible sound is good.

I have the CL5 these play at 442 so to counter that you should get the tuning rings that Vandoren suply to bring the pitch down. I use the thicker ring with a 66 barrel. The other option of course is to get the new American Pitch version of the Masters mouthpiece.

It tried the CL4 and it did seem very sharp. Backun and others sell barrels up to 68mm. I would have needed a 67.5mm to bring the pitch to 440 on my Toscas.
Vandoren have a lower pitch version of several of their mouthpieces but I didn't think they had made a version of their Masters series. I had a look around a few sites and couldn't find one.

That's why you need the specific tuning rings for the Masters to bring them down to 440.

Thanks for the tip on the tuning rings, I realized my old clarinet teacher told me about these.
If you have any additional info on the American Pitch masters that would be great, I'll look it up
Is there a place where you can get Backun barrels for a trial period?

So the tuning rings would solve my problem.
I am curious about barrels though - If you play a CL4, what barrel do you prefer in combination with it? I've seen a couple of people mention Chadash's.
There isn't a place near me where I can try out clarinet stuff. I have to mail order things...what mail order companies do you guys recommend? Which ones give trial periods? Weinermusic has a large selection of items and things for clarinets but they don't really do trial periods, it's just buy the things and you can return them after 30 days. :P lots of money up front.
Anyways, I was happy with the sound on my instrument so tuning rings is probably the best thing but I'm just curious
