John -

You have a big talent and have worked harder than anyone I know of to make the most of it. Congratulations. You deserve the praise.

I've never heard of the the American Clarinetists Orchestra, though. Did the writer mean the American Symphony Orchestra? Or is it one more achievement to add to your 10,000-points-of light resume?

Good catch Ken!
It should be, of course, the AMERICAN COMPOSERS ORCHESTRA!
I've been in the Orchestra since it's inception over 30 years ago.
Although maybe we should start an AMERICAN CLARINETISTS ORCHESTRA?
Are you game? Or maybe we're both busy that day :-)

No doubt that you've "paid your dues" and play at a level most of us only dream about, however, I am wondering if a line was crossed here regarding shameless self promotion. If it is ok for the goose, is it also acceptable for the flock?

Nevertheless, a very nice article about a very nice person and a "pretty good" clarinet player. Congrats, JJM.

William -

I've known John since 1958. Believe me, he has earned the right to bask in the Examiner writer's approval. Nothing he writes here is the sort of shameless self promotion that may advance his career. If anything, he raises the level of discourse here, at his own expense.

Thanks so much Ken, you are a very good old friend.

Perhaps William will like these few pieces I hesitated to post..too much self-promotion?

John's not fishing for more business ... it's more akin to someone posting a link to their YouTube performance.

John Moses doesn't need to fish for more business. He's already well-known and well-respected, with an enviable resumé. Thanks for the link!

Thank you, JJM, for the additional articles--I do appreciate them. Also, thanks MC for clarifying the BB self promotion policy. I didn't mean to attack our eminent NYC board member, I was just asking..........sorry if I offended anyone. [self banished to the basement practice room for ten non-stop hours of long tones]

Just yesterday, I was enjoying a 20 year old CD called "The Men in My Life"
by the great mezzo soprano Marilyn Horne. She is accompanied by the American Theatre Orchestra led by Paul Gemignani, and you are listed among the woodwinds of this fine recording. Congratulations.

Thanks Mike, that was a fun session. Marilyn Horne was such a fantastic artist for that date, and we all had a ball listening to her really open up the pop side of her vocal artistry. The American Theatre Orchestra was made up of many of us working on Broadway and conducted by Gemignani for almost 20 years. We backed-up many fine artists who wanted to sing or play in a more pop style.
