I use these pads because they provide a solid base to the connection of the keys to the horn. With other pads there is some give, some play when you press them down. This is moreso prevalent in the larger tone holes. E/B, F#/C#, etc. With some other pads these just dosent seem to be enough of a solid base when i press the kes down, there seems to be some sort of a fudge factor between the timne the pad skin hits and the time when the key stops. Because the Straubinger pads are made of a more highly compacted felt, and use a plastic disk on the backing instead of cardboard there is a great amount of stability in the pad. When the pad hits it is seated fully. There is no extra movement. To me ot seems aaas though the horn is more tight when i press down the keys. Also the Straubingers last longer, at leasst that's what I have heard. I ahev only had them on my Bb for over a year so I can't attest to their longevity. I really like the pads adn am going to have them put on my A clarinet this summer. i owuldn't reccomend repadding the entire horn with them. I still like cork on some certain keys. Also the pads are expensive, last time i checked, about $11 per pad, on my Bb i spent about $180 getting the pads, but it's worth it. Another thing to come into factor is that only certified technitians can put the Straubinger pads. i only know of 2 people inn my area that are certified to work with these pads. i would reccomend these pads, expically when there are alot of climate changes that you have to play in, they are very stable pads.
I hope i translated at least some innformation about these pads for someone to make enough sense of it.

i'm from indy, which is where straubinger is based, and he overhauled both my horns over the summer - basically aaron said it all. the pads are so solid and my horns seal tight as a drum - i have no worries...i highly recommend them - best of luck!
