 Legere left on mouthpiece
Author: hinotehud 2017

I played a new Legere Signature 3 3/4 in the pit for a musical on Saturday and it played great! I forgot to remove the reed from the mouthpiece afterward (Vandoren M30.) When I discovered it on Monday it played like a totally different reed. It seemed to lose a lot of its stiffness. I know they tell you not to leave it on the mouthpiece. Has anyone else noticed this and is there anything you can do about it?

I leave my Legeres on all the time. I'm lazy. Only thing I've noticed is that after 10+ years of doing this, I have a suspicion that my mouthpiece might have warped a little. :P

Hasn't stopped me from doing it yet though. This is probably not very effective. ;)

Maybe it is just my imagination.

I take my Legere off, dry it and leave it hanging around in my case. Lazy I know but it seems to play fine. Ken Shaw did reply to me on here to say don't leave it on the mouthpiece as it can warp. ;-)

You don't say so, but I assume when you discovered it on Monday, you took the reed off, perhaps cleaned (wiped) it off and reset it on the mouthpiece. I've never (I only use Legeres occasionally for pit work with lots of instrument changes) found that leaving the reed on the mouthpiece degraded it, but sometimes the reed gets stuck to the mouthpiece table (minerals in my saliva?) and, until I pull it off and reset it, it sometimes seems less vibrant.
