I was wondering if anyone has tried the rovner van gogh lig. i was wonderin what people thought of them and how one goes about changing the tone, the wed site doesnt mention plates or inserts. any info would be great.

Haven't tried that specific one but, I've owned and played numerous other Rovner's. I found them all to be to restrictive and, in my case, reduced vibration rather than enhanced it.
A lot of people play them and, very successfully so, I'm guessing my experience is unique.

I own this ligature and I have to say that for me it didn't really do anything special. After about a week trying it at home an in orchestra I wasn't convinced. I found it cumbersome and too big. I also felt it dampened the reed vibrations and made for a dull sound. If the lig was that tiny bit smaller then things might be different. It covered too much of the machined part of the reed for my liking and I could also feel the edge on the bottom of the lip of occasion. Novel idea which I don't think works as well as they claim.

My teacher plays on a Van Gogh rovner. I haven't played it personally but it looks exactly like a longer mark 3.

I tried it at clarinetfest (the IDEAL place to try anything, of course) and felt about the same as Peter Cigleris above. Seemed to dampen the reed a bit, took out any "brilliance" or "ping" from the reed. It may not have sounded so, but it made me feel as though my playing and tonguing was sluggish. It didn't work for me. I still swear by rovner, but I prefer a different design of theirs.

I've been using the Rovner Dark...never tried the Van Gogh. I like the dark sound. I can feel the vibrations through the entire clarinet in all registers. It does have a nice ring to it. I've read that you may want to use a reed that's about 1/2 higher strength.
