Does anyone know, aside from bell, what, if any, difference there is between the SE and SEV??
It is my understanding that the older SE (1995-to intro of SEV) was replaced with the SEV.
Among other Bb clarinets, I have an older SE in near new condition. It has a light 'french' sound, ringing tonal color, responsive and excellent tuning. My SEA has the same qualities / features mentioned below.
interestingly, the register key vent is 2mm higher than that of any era R13 (Bb and A). This is also done on the SEA. This factory raised vent position is also done on select Buffet models, RC, Vintage, RC Prestige, etc. The concept of the relocated vent tube affords better tuning for the alt. A, B, C without affecting the lower 12ths.. My set of Vintages have the factory modified vent tube. My R13 does not. (Perhaps Yamaha reverse engineered an R13)
Aside from a different bell used with the SEV (and CSV), Yamaha literature indicates ------"The taper inside the bell is more open to provide for a round, full sound."
In searching Yamaha archives on the SE, no mention is made of the Bell. The bore dimmentions are the same (14.78) as is the standard 65mm barrel, grenadilla, silver plating, features, etc.
Both models are described having the same-----"Lush and muted chamber sound quality"
thanks in advance
