Hi everybody, I'm looking for a good repertoire to join in a national competition here in Brazil.
I need six pieces or moviments (max 5mins each) to put in registration.
I will chosen 2 for first round and two more for semi-final. In final i need put 2 concertos (mov. 10mins max) for i chosen one.

I need your help to chosen a good repertoire, pieces that i can show technique, musicallity, all.

I thought in saint-saes sonata first moviment and solo concours Messager, but both are French, so i dont know if its better play 3ยบ mov Weber Grand duo concertant?
I have a good piece for clarinet solo by Claudio Santoro (Brazilian composer), its around 3mins, so i can play it.
first moviment Schumann fantasy maybe?
Debussy rhapsodie is around 7 mins, so unfortunately i cant play it.
Say me your opinion...

Since you are limited to five minutes each, here are some suggestions:

Pierne--Canzonetta (about 4:00)
Nielsen--Fantasy Piece (about 4:20)
Babin--Hillandale Waltzes (too long to play all of it, but you could choose a couple variations)
Finzi--Five Bagatelles (you could choose a couple)
Tartini/Gordon Jacob--Concertino (you could pick a couple movements)

Since you live in Brazil, you might be interested in this transcription of a Villa-Lobos piece that was transcribed for solo clarinet. I don't know much about it, but here are two links:

Don't play Babin, Finzi or Tartini truncated if at all possible.

I believe in my heart of hearts they were composed in full with good intentions.

I need really good pieces, because this is a competition between pianists, violinists, flutists... so i need pieces like Brahms (i dont know if some moviment is less than 5min), or Schumann.

Yes, the five minute limit eliminates a lot of good possibilities, including the first movements of the Brahms sonatas, the last movement of the Weber Grand Duo, the Copland sonata, etc. (I think my information is correct, but you should probably check to make sure).

One interesting possibility is the Poulenc Sonata. You can really show off your skills as a player, and it's a work I think your audience will enjoy. The first movement is very slightly over five minutes, and the third movement is about
3 1/2 minutes.

Since you are in Brazil, perhaps something by Daniel Wolfe? One of his Etudes for solo clarinet or perhaps a movement from his clarinet concerto.

Some other possibilities: Berio's Lied and Trincanti's Clarinettologia.

I think last moviment of Weber Grand Duo is around 5mins.
I dont know about Poulenc, in the last edition of this competition two clarinetists played Poulenc Sonata (first and third mov.) and the jury said the same thing for both: "you played very well, good technique but ... Poulenc is just this."
I dont know the reason but I felt they dont like poulenc sonata, they said for both clarinetist that Poulenc is just technique. I dont agree with them, I like alot of Poulenc sonata but i cant play a piece that i know the jury dont like it.

I dont know Daniel Wolfe, is he Brazilian? Do you have those pieces?
I think Berio's Lies is a good choice.

If this contest has been held before, can you find out whether winners in the past have stayed within the five minute limit by playing partial movements? Or do the judges indicate that they don't like excerpts? It would be easier to choose music if you know for sure whether or not using excerpts would hurt you.

Daniel Wolff (sorry, I misspelled the name before) is probably best known as a guitarist. I do have both of the pieces I mentioned. You can find sheet music for them here:

http://www.danielwolff.com/music.htm

Gary Dranch has recorded the concerto with an orchestra. It used to be available for free on several websites around the Internet. Try Spotify or Naxos Music Library if you have access to them. One of them may have it. I could only find a recording with piano today but I'm a little hampered because I'm not at home right now and all I have is an iPad. I did listen to the clarinet and piano version. Unfortunately, each of the two movements is a bit over 6 minutes so, unless you could cut some of the tutties, they are not within your time limits. I still recommend you download the clarinet part (which is free) to read through for fun and possibly for future use. All of the Small Etudes should be well within the time limit And, at less than US$ 5 for the set, are, IMO, worth a look.

Best regards,
jnk

One more thought. The Andante from Charles Camilleri's Concertino isn't very well-known, but it's beautiful music and a bit over 5 minutes long. It's a favorite of Michele Gingras, and here's a link:

If the jury last year didn't care for Poulenc, they might really like this one. There's only one possible problem--I don't know if it's easy to find the music.

That Concertino is nice! But I never saw the music.
Well ... I can play moviments but I cant cut them.
This is the third edition of competition, all clarinetists were elimanated in first round, so I dont know what repertoire they chosen for semi final and final.

You can watch all the rounds in youtube, this is a competition televised.
This clarinetist played 4th mov. saint saes sonata and Hommage Richard Strauss. The jury said were her mistakes: in the saint saes, she need more contrast between fortes and pianos and in hommage, she need show more the "Strauss style" in this piece.

Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGaNeVgsu0I (you can put in 5:33, when she starts to play)

Other clarinetist, he played second and third mov. Martinu sonata and third mov. Poulenc sonata.
The jury said that he has a nice technique, sound, articulation, but chosen two similar pieces in style. And about Poulenc, they said "you played it right, well... poulenc is just this"

And about final repertoire ... i cant play Mozart, because i dont have clarinet in A. I can play Weber n1 (first or third mov.), Weber n2 (first or third mov.) or Spohr N1 (first or third mov.)

What do you think?
