It's a great piece!
Very lovely french music, one of the calssic of the clarinet repertoire.
4 movements. I would say the first 3 are intermediate level and the 4th is bit technical.

On this wonderful site do a search for saint saens in the discography section. I have 3 recordings the Stolzmann which I don't like, the Paul Meyer which I really like and one by Claude Faucomprez which I adore.

I hope you will enjoy playing it as much as I do!

Saint Saens is a good piece - although musically I think the first three movements may be a little harder than a grade 3.

Recordings of this are sparse, although I think it's been recorded recently by someone (not sure who). When I was looking for one 10 or so years ago, the only one I could find was one by dePeyer, and he misses half the notes on the first page of the last movement.......

Karl Leister has a recording of it on his "Par Excellance" CD. I think it's very good.

You may try to get a midi file from www.musicbysunset.com (section of College Level Clarinet Core Repertoire) and should know roughly how it sounds like.

NYSSMA (New York State) classifies it as a level 5 with the most difficult level being level 6. I don't know if this will help you, but I thought it was worth a try.
