I just bought a Wurlitzer M3* off eBay and would like to know if anyone uses a true German style mouthpiece on a Boehm system clarinet. Will it be compatible with a Selmer CT (provided it fits in the barrel)?
It's not such a huge loss if not as I do have a Yamaha Oehler system (600 series) that I can use it with instead, as well as with Vandoren White and Black Master reeds as I have some old boxes of both.
And do these mouthpieces have a flat or concave table?

Chris,
I've had mixed results with German mps on my Selmer CT. There have been a few that played in tune, and really altered the sound of the CT. The best results were with Viottos and the WZ2 (Wurlitzer). But while they yeilded a warm and focused sound, they lacked the explosiveness that a Selmer mouthpiece yeilds on the horn.
My M3 is a flat table--beyond that I have no specs. I acquired it as part of a big package of mouthpieces, and it's more in the collection for reference--it's never worked well for me on either Wurlitzers or Selmers.
Keep us posted on how it works out for you.
Eric

As my Yamaha Oehler has the stock Yamaha mouthpiece, I wouldn't mind something different or possibly better to see if it makes a difference.
The description mentions it has a 0.84mm tip opening with a 25mm lay which is a lot closer than I expected a German mouthpiece to be - more like that of an Austrian mouthpiece going by Vandoren's specification charts.

Here are specs of the M3 type mouthpieces.
Model Opening Length
M3 0.82 24.9
M3+ 0.90 24.8
M3* 0.84 25
I'm not too sure how well your Wurlitzer will play in tune on a french clarinet. You didn't mention whether the tenon size was for a Wurlitzer style clarinet.

Thanks for that info.
I will probably have to turn the tenon down to make it fit as my Yamaha German mouthpiece won't fit in my CT barrel.

I've used Oehler-system mpcs with Boehm clarinets but since I don't like the German-style facings (very close/very long) I've always refaced the mouthpieces to a more "French-style" facing, which means they really aren't German-style mouthpieces any more, are they? :(
