What a wonderful man. His movies are good too! Seriously, it's something special for him to care so much.

I wonder if he'll turn off his phone during the performance....or will he be too busy playing angry birds? lol.

Good for NY Phil, but I certainly wouldn't judge him on one good act (especially one as easy as signing a small piece of paper and donating a fraction of his net worth). It's easy for a multi-millionaire to write check that can be a tax write-off. Maybe this is a gesture to try to get back in the public's "good graces" after throwing a temper tantrum.

But good for the NY Phil, no matter WHY he donated.

A nice bit of philanthropy by Mr. Baldwin; an award-winning non sequitur by the Associated Press:

"Just days after tying the knot with his yoga instructor, Alec Baldwin donated $1 million to the New York Philharmonic."

you betcha! I judge people on day to day happenings and don't let extravagent one time gestures to be an example of what they're like. Granted i dont know mr. Baldwin at all, but a rich celebrity writing a check, to me, doesn't wash away a temper tantrum because they dont want to obey a federal law and then complain like a child about being thrown off the plane.

Now if he decides to volunteer some personal time and effort towards others, i'd be more impressed.

I like Alec Baldwin's work as an actor and enjoy the podcast interviews he does for WNYC. I question some of his public behavior, but I am sure that there are few people who have not done things they regret. I have done or said things in my life that I wish I could take back, but fortunately nobody is following me around with a camera.

I think you are somehow drawing a line connecting his various issues and this donation. While he is the same person, I don't believe there is any connection between the two actions. I am sure that he, like most everyone, has many sides to his personality, good and bad.

FWIW, it is not a "one time gesture"

I appreciate Mr. Baldwin's intention to help arts organizations here in the US and to bring attention to their needs, especially at a time when some of our top cultural institutions are struggling.
