I want to play capriccio for UIL. On the PML, it says it's a Bb clarinet solo. I've tried to find it for Bb clarinet, but can only find it for A clarinet. In the specifications, it didn't say I had to transpose. Should I transpose, or should I play it on A clarinet.

If you have an A clarinet, it might be best to use it. However, because the Capriccio is for clarinet solo, one can play it on any clarinet one wishes. So, if you don't have an A, you shouldn't have to get one. There is no edition for Bb clarinet. If UIL lists it as a Bb clarinet solo, presumably they will allow it played as written on a Bb clarinet. They probably do this because: (a) they recognize it as a worthwhile work, and (b) they understand that most of their participants will not have an A clarinet.
For a definitive answer, though, check with UIL.

If you can get an A, play it on an A. Great piece and well written for the timbre of the A clarinet. Happy practicing.
