To the Effer players out there.. any reqs for a plastic Eb Sop? I have a nice Buffet R-13 but dont want to haul it outside for marching season <assuming my knees can take it......> Ive heard good things about the Selmer plastic one... also got a good price quote on one brand new <under $600> Thanks! Hi Blake,
I'm an adult eefer player, currently playing wood Buffet E-11.
I quite agree that taking an R-13 out in the elements is ill advised.
IMHO, the eefer adds to sonic texture of a wind band, but effect when marching is so slight that it would be hard to justify the purchase of an instrument specifically for that purpose. I would recommend using Bb instrument for marching.
If you are dead set on purchasing a plastic eefer, I have heard that the Yamaha's are quite good.

I found a Selmer Bundy Eb at a pawn shop. After getting a new mouthpiece for it, it's not half bad.

I purchased a Plastic Eb Clarinet from Selmer. It sounds great, and have gotten a lot of use out of it during my daughters marching season.

I picked up a Bundy Eb for my daughter. It surprised me that it sounds so nice. She is using it in her college band, no complaints from her conductor who is head of the music dept and the clarinet prof.
It was cheap (about $250 on e-Bay). If I had a good R13 I sure wouldn't take it out in the rain, $250 is cheap insurance and you could sell it when you are done with band and completely re-coup the purchase price.

The Selmer Bundy effers are almost as good as your best pro models and definately provide the most "bang for your buck."

Woodwind & Brasswind has their own Woodwind brand eefer, brand new, for only $299.00. Has anyone ever tried one of these? Do you know who makes them? I know the Woodwind brand plastic piccolo is actually a Gemeinhardt, only less expensive. It even came in a Gemeinhardt case! So I'm guessing that maybe the eefer has a similar background. If it's a Selmer Bundy or Yamaha stencil, it could be a real bargain.
