Doesn't accomplish anything. Every conductor will be different and every conductor will change through the years.
Also quite annoying.

The pitch range is interesting. I wonder how much is attributable to local tuning traditions and how much to either recording or playback infidelity.

That's what I was wondering as some of the pitch differences between the recordings of the various US and UK orchestras was different when they should all be at 440Hz, so I put that down to the recording or playback speed.
Obviously from that the German and Austrians are tuned above 440Hz and the period orchestras are lower pitch at between 415Hz and 430Hz.
