Hi
Could anyone help me to identify the model of a Buffet with a sn. 1544 made in 1926 as far as I can tell. I haven't seen it so I don't know what markings are on it other than the number.
Thanks

Sn. 1544 was made in 1928. See http://www.woodwind.org/clarinet/Equipment/HowOld/Buffet.html. At that time, Buffet made only one, professional, model.
I own a couple of Buffets from that period that are very good. However, many of them have been altered in an attempt to fix tuning problems. Look down the upper joint. If the bore above the register vent is dull rather than shiny, it has been re-bored.
Most barrels that come with clarinets that old have been re-bored, and very few are original. Count on getting a new barrel.
Don't buy without a full examination looking for cracks. I wouldn't buy anything that was not in playable condition, so I could check for intonation problems.
