 Grenaditte Clarinets?
Author: Chris P

Just remembered the Guo Grenaditte flutes the other day and wonder if anyone has designed or made a clarinet out of Grenaditte - with either metal or plastic keywork.

Can this Grenaditte composite be machined easily or is it best being injection moulded into joints?

And as it's been a while since I last read up on the Guo flutes I see they've expanded their lineup considerably - piccolos, G treble flutes, concert flutes and bass flutes, but no alto flutes from what I gather.

Former oboe finisher

1998 - 2010

The opinions I express are my own.

Gosh Chris I almost missed this post !!! The YOUTUBE video I saw sounds amazing. It looks from the one close picture that I saw (and description of it as a purely man made proprietary material) a form of plastic. It would be interesting to know how it compares in workability to Greenline which is hard on tools.

VERY EXCITING !!!!

I am more then interested to figure out the mechanical properties of this mix. A few materials that comes to my mind which this should be compared with would be that of Carbon Fiber, Grenadilla laminate composite and Delrin Acetyl. Mechanically, the issues such as thermal expansion, density and hardness are all some of the things that I would be very interested to see for myself.

(edit) I read Chris P's link of the maker's site in Mandarin, and it stated that the material is a polymer composite, albeit without elaboration of the mixture as one would expect.

... possibility for a bit of post-gun drilling heat treatment to get better bore would make me gaze in glee over the material.

(Realistically though, I am not sure if anyone would disclose too much information on their black voodoo. The mix used for Leblanc and Backun's Bliss for one isn't exactly privy to public discourse)

To Chris:

I would seriously hope that the process is purely machine milled. Injection molded products in terms of structural resistance, evenness and mechanical tolerance have mostly been inferior to machine milled/forged parts. Not every Chinese clarinet manufacturer can execute their ABS cast at the mastery as that of Bandai
