Hi,
What are your favourite encore pieces for recitals? I like Scherzetto, by Malcolm Arnold.

Hi Tom,
I think Giampieris variations on Carnival of Venice is a good encore piece, even if you only do the theme and a few variations.

I like to use any mvts from the Templeton, "Pocket-Size Sonatas" #1 or #2 and mvts from the Williams English Folk Song Suite; another good choice that you can turn into an exciting barnburner is Finale, mvt III from the Szalowski Sonatina. v/r Ken

I would like to bring this thread back to life again after 8 years? I'm about to do something that involve "encore piece" so, Please share your great opinions. Couple great choices are already listed above, keep them coming please.

Consider Fritz Kreisler's Sicilienne and Rigaudon (which he attributed to Francoeur). The Sicilienne is a gorgeous, warm melody, and the Rigaudon is light and humorous. (But consider that you may be tired at the end of a recital, and the quick tonguing in the Rigaudon could be problematic.) There's a good transcription for clarinet in Bonade's 16 Grand Solos De Concert. http://www.muncywinds.com/index.php/cd-s-printed-music/books/clarinet/bonade-16-grands-solos-de-concert.html (The book is a bit pricey though at $40.)
There are also some excellent transcriptions by Reginald Kell of three movements from Handel's recorder sonatas and, even better, a lyrical Gigue from one of Corelli's violin sonatas. They're available in inexpensive editions from International.

Personally, I like to write hymn arrangements and use that.
Either the first or the third of Gershwin's Three Preludes are fun for an encore.
