My director gave me her old copy of the Stamitz Concerto (No. 3), edited by J. Wojciechowski (I think thats who edits it.....it's all in German...whatever "Herausgegebn Von J. Wojciechowski)
Anyway, my private teacher is out of town so i cant ask him, but all through out the song, there are itty bitty dots over runs. Take the 3rd Mvt. for example....@ E, all the six figures have that over them. Does this mean that I can pick my own art., whether it be slur it all, or slur 2 tongue 2 , or tongue it all? They look like connect the dot slurs. I haven't ever encountered this before, what does it mean?!? I know in the version my instrucor copied for me @ E slur 2 tongue 2. I'm so confused!!!!!!!!

Staccato, legato, and slur marks are combined in a variety of ways. Here it sounds like you have staccato marks combined with slur marks. Basically it means to play them all on a single breath. There should be less separation between the notes than notes with no marks at all. The tonguing should be very light.

Hello Clarisse,
indeed, the preface notes, there are many additional slurs made by the publisher, indicated as dotted slurs. I sugest you should learn both ways to play, and finally select the version which sounds best.

It is my understanding that the original Stamitz manuscript was indecisive as to articulation markings and that the dotted lines are suggestions made by the arranger/editor and that you are at liberty to use them or not. I will attempt to send you a copy of my Stamitz Preface page which I have in English, if I can discover how to use my new scanner properly. Good luck.

In this context, "hearausgegeben von" means "edited by."
The dots over slurs are nearly certain to have been added by Herr Wojciechowski. Such editorial additions (particularly if the edition was published more than 25 years ago) are almost always wrong, and often idiotic. Manuscripts from the Stamitz era had very few markings. Performers were expected to slur or toungue according to their abilities, musical taste and various traditions.
Practice the 3rd movement both slurred and tongued. Which works best? When your teacher returns, you'll have it worked out both ways and be ready to discuss with him the best way to play it.
There are some really good recordings of Stamitz concertos by Karl Schlechta. It's on one of the super-bargain CD labels -- I can't remember which.
