There's the Youtube Symphony competition each year. A few months ago there was a thread started here by one of the finalists.

Wait a minute, it sounds almost as if you are being a bit dismissive of those who WON the auditions of the past such as Ana Catalina Ramirez, a fine player indeed.

I have to somewhat agree with David's comment on the Youtube judging process. Apparently although the final judging process is done by members of the London Symphony the list of candidates they are allowed to judge is compiled by an advertising agency hired by Youtube. This past year there were plenty of rumors that they had intentionally excluded candidates with professional credentials from appearing in the finals, Sean Osborn being among them.

Yes Paul, I am being just that.
There are/were some very good players who made it, but there were others who's video was pretty average - who were advanced by the ad agency instead of way, way better musicians who did audition.
In other words, it was bogus.
