German system new clarinet, which one?
Author: Clarsax

Hi,
I'm very interested for these clarinets
There are Yamaha and Schreiber in the price range I'm looking for
(1200-1400 € in Europe)
Which is the best regarding the making of german clarinet system?
Thank you

Schreiber has been making German clarinets for many years. Yamaha makes excellent French clarinets. I've never played their German horn.

If it were me, I test both and see which one feels the best.

Probably isn't the answer you were looking for, but play testing a horn is probably the only way to pick a really good horn.

Last year I bought a Karl Hammerschmidt ("Klingson") in G, and it really is a good clarinet. They communicate very well also.

I'd say if the choice was between Yamaha and Schreiber, go for the Yamaha.

Thanks for all replies :)
I'm interested for a Bb, possibly tuned at A440 ...
I agree, a playtest is the best way to choose, unfortunately I can't do it because there is not a dealer in my area...
I've found a good range of these clarinets at Thomann
http://www.thomann.de/it/cat.html?gf=bb_clarinets_german_system&oa=pra
and there are good samples to hear the differences
The Yamaha 457-22 and the Schreiber D-41 has a little price difference (the Neureiter is tuned at A443)
Making some other search I've found another good clarinet (it seems) under 1400 Euros, it is the Uebel 632
http://uebel-klarinetten.de/fauebel/klarinetten/b-klarinetten/b-klarinette-632/
With 2 barrels, a 23/5 keywork and other features I find it very very interesting... impressions?

Thanks Kalakos for another alternative, the less expensive Klingson model I should afford is the 19a.
Also the Adler 320 is very interesting but it is out of my budget...

Friend of mine has an Uebel, he swears by them.

It's an older model, I think it's the equivalent of today's 622.

Thanks Ben
If I decide for the Uebel I wouldn't take not less than the 632 but your friend's experience may sound like a little warning even if I don't know the problem and the clarinet is old
I've made a search here and found a thread with positive comments
on the 632, I hope that some player who has compared it among other clarinets
(Yamaha 457-22 ?) may add his impressions...

Said friend swears by it, not at it. Means he's very happy with it and probably would buy it again.

Sorry for the confusion.

Well, Ben, there you go baffling the foreigners with your idiomatic American English! You crazy Swiss guys..............

British English, please. Back in school we got the teacher's ruler on our fingers when we failed to pronounce "dance" the wrong way...

Well I still chuckle when I envision orchestra players wearing suspenders. :-)

Several people I know have had good experience with the Bb Karl Hammerschmidt clarinets (klarinets).
I also owned an Amati G, and it was very good, but I sold it and bought the Hammerschmidt.
A good friend has the Yamaha in Bb and he absolutely loves it. He compares it to the antique Buffet "Albert" clarinets he owns and says the Yamaha is just about as good.
The "German" made clarinets tend to be a bit heavier than the old Buffets (which is what I play except for my G by Hammerschmidt).
Good luck with whatever you decide to get!
John

"England and America are two countries separated by the same language." George Bernard Shaw.

I tried the Yamaha German Clarinet. My hope was that I would end up sounding like Karl Leister. Unfortunately I sounded more like Dieter Klocker on an Eb Clarinet.

My advice would be to save up more money, go all out and buy a Wurlizer Soloist. We only get one shot at life.

Chris.
