Klose cl. scale studies for sax?
Author: salzo
Date:   2010-04-07 23:29

Does anyone know if the Klose clarinet scales are published for saxophone? I use them for my sax students-I wrote them out by hand. But I would rather use a published copy for sax if one is available.
Thanks for any help.

I have seen Rose studies/etudes for sax (published, plus i have one that i transcribed myself), and the Klose "68 exercises of mechanism" (from Book 1 of his method) published for saxophone in a different key... but not the Klose scales... would be interested to hear if they are available.

I learned to use Lilypond (the free music writing software) by keying in the Klose scale pattern for clarinet. I made a few alterations to my clarinet version to put it in the range of a saxophone and came up with this (attached). Perhaps you can make use of it.

(I can't guarantee it's free from errors, but it looked right when I briefly scanned through it just now.)

I only know this scales: "Scales and Arpeggios for Saxophone: Grades 1-8 (brochure)" ISBN-13: 978-1854728203, but it's not Klose's.

kindly
Roman

PS: I use it for clarinet, and there's a helpful tool.

I still have some Klose studies for sax (Leduc) around here somewhere when I had to play them in college. I think one is a transcripton of Jeanjean and the other is scales and arpeggios (Marcel Mule?). I can't remember if those are the Klose exercises or not.

I use the Klose 25 daily lessons for sax as mentioned above, it is a wonderful book. I also use it for clarinet! The lessons are quite melodius and not at all boring.
