 a funny moment...

For whatever reason I happened to remember something that happened to me a few years ago.

I had one of those solo's in an orchestra, and when I played that throat "A" note on the clarinet it made one of those funny gurgling noises when water gets into one of those key holes. Well the conductor stopped the orchestra and asked me what was wrong with my horn. Not thinking very well I said to the conductor, "Sorry I have water in my "A" hole." Needless to say everyone cracked up and I felt like a complete moron.

Maybe some others have one of those moments they wish to share.

I had a friend that got in a hurry to get to rehearsal. He showed up...opened his case....no horn. Left it sitting on his clarinet stand from when he was practicing.

This is possibly a little PG-13, but here it goes...

I believe it was during Mahler 9 while I was in college, and a friend of mine was playing Eb clarinet as usual. The aux instruments (I was on English horn) didn't play that often during the piece, we'd all look around at each other. Well when it came for her solo, she picked the instrument, and started to blow and nothing came out. The conductor stopped and asked in his french accent why she didn't play, and she replied "It (the reed) got hard sitting in my lap". Needless to say that was the running joke of the school the whole year.

A long time ago a conductor said to the, "you're late". I quickly responded, obviously without thinking, "that's what my wife says". The orchestra broke up and even the conductor had to laughed. I was thinking coming home late from a concert or rehearsal but somehow it didn't come off like that. I had to laugh at myself too. PS. I've never been late again. ESP http://eddiesclarinet.com

A friend loaded up his instruments for an evening gig half way across the country (UK). He had to move his wife's car to get his own out, and since they're both the same model and his mind was on other things, he forgot to change back into his own car and didn't realise his mistake until he went to unload his kit with 10 minutes to go. He was able to borrow a friends back-up clarinet and had another band member cover for him on sax and it sort of worked.

Our coincert band was doing a parpdy of Dvorak's "Humoreske" for a concert this year. THe piece we were going to play was called "Humorescapade." Our conductor told us we were playing it too "straight" and trying too hard to make it sound right. He told us we had to imagine we were really bad musicians trying to play a serious piece. I chimed in "Oh, we can fo that! It's what we usually do."

It got a laugh from most of the group.
