Hi forumers
I've noticed recently that sometimes when I play a left hand C that my clarinet squeaks. I've been playing for quite a few years and never had this problem and I had my clarinet serviced about six months ago but I can't work out whether it is actually me or a problems with the clarinet and I don't really want to take it to my local music shop cos they have to send it away and I'm always dubious if they will just rip me off (sorry, awfully cynical I am!).
What I've noticed is that I can't seem to get it to happen unless I am playing a run that goes from Bb to C - 80% of the time if I play this run any louder than mezzapiano, I get a squeak when I hit the left handed C. At the moment I am having to hit the C note with less force which is no good if I want perform solo pieces.
Any help would be appreciated before I send it away...even if you think its just me over blowing!!

The LH F/C on most clarinets is one of the weakest areas of clarinet design and needs to be properly set up (often modifying the manufacturer's offering - yes including R13 and Tosca level instruments).
If this is not set up correctly the leverage can be insufficient to provide a 100% reliable seal especially in fast passages or when going over the break.

Plus, when one contorts their fingers to hit the LH F/C spatula, often the LH ring finger leaves its place over the tonehole or inadvertedly touches the C#/G# lever.
