Hi,
a friend just gave me an old Albert system clarinet, and I'd like to figure out who made it and approximately when.
It's wood and the marks on the bell and body are very hard to read (and some joker seems to have applied varnish to some of them, or perhaps polished those areas, perhaps in an attempt to make them easier to read).
What I can make out:
"B", "LP", and "France" on both pieces of the body--so it's in Bb, low pitch, and probably made in France (though for all I know made somewhere else and just stamped "France").
"Godfroy", "Aine", "Paris" on the bell and upper joint.
Another "France" on the bell.
Two lines saying "Southern California" and "SOMETHINGusic Co", also on the bell. (Probably "Music", but there may be a few letters missing at the beginning.)
Godfroy seem to have made flutes in the second half of the nineteenth century. The only mentions of clarinets I can find are of a five-key clarinet from the beginning of the nineteenth century, and a question asking for more information on this very board.
I'll attach some pictures. Sorry they aren't great. I took them rather in a hurry just now.
