1. i was in the 5th day of breaking in reeds and the next day they were all moldy! How does that happen when i've played on reeds for weeks without mold? I don't think i've done anything different.
2. I just found some reeds in my cold dark closet, and it's winter. So yea, is there any way i can "reheat" my reeds?
Thx alot! I'm hoping for Christmas Santa will bless my reeds.

1- is it powder on the reeds or "mold"? If it's just powder just clean it off, if necessary you can use a damp cloth or even a little bit of mild hand soap and let them dry out. You can do the same thing if there's just a little bit of mold on them too. I wouldn't "soak" them though. Chances are you had them stored in something with a lot of moisture in it.
2- just let the cold reeds sit out in your room for a day or two. I've never known the cold to ruin a reed. ESP http://eddiesclarinet.com

You're leaving much too much out. What were the reeds stored in? Where were they stored and under what conditions of temperature and humidity? What exactly does being "in the 5th day of breaking in reeds" mean more precisely?
Why do reeds that you've found in a "cold dark closet" need to be "reheated?" Why wouldn't you just leave the box (or the reeds themselves if they're loose) in a room at normal "room temperature" and then use them as you'd use any other reeds? Are they new? Used? The ones with the mold on them?
Help us understand the problem more completely.

Scrub the reeds with a wet toothbrush and a little toothpaste. This removes the mold and the moldy taste.
To prevent mold, you need to put the reeds in a holder with some ventilation. Never use clear flexible plastic flat holders, which provide the ideal environment for mold.
Also, reeds should be dry when you put them away. Kal Opperman says to hold a reed at the butt between your left thumb and index finger, pinch lightly with your right thumb and index finger under and over the vamp and stroke down over and past the tip, continuing until the reed is completely dry. Since I started doing this, I've never had a problem with mold.
