An accompanist friend asked for recommendations for collections of pieces for clarinet and piano which can be used for church services. Both sacred and secular pieces are fine.
All of my anthologies are 40 years old and not particularly appropriate. Suggestions?
Thanks

Perhaps on the edge of suitable pieces, but the greatest bargain going: Masterworks for Clarinet and Piano, G. Schirmer, Inc.
Great stuff, the BIG pieces for this duo --equal partners in the performance, demanding piano parts. Weber,Schuman,Mendelssohn, Brahms (the Sonatas).

The Stoltzman Aria book has a bunch of good stuff in it that would probably work.

The Gershwin and Stoltzman are good suggestions. What about the "Richard Stoltzman Songbook"?
I put these individual pieces into clarinet and piano notebooks, and use them sometimes as background music:
Bozza, Eugene: Aria pour clarinette et piano (Leduc)
Debussy, Claude: La Fille Avec Cheveux de Lin (Southern - arr: Hite, David)
Debussy, Claude: Petite Piece (Durand)
Delmas, Marc: Promenade (Alfred)
Elgar, Edward: Salut D'Amour (Peters - self arr. for clarinet in A)
Faure, Gabriel: Sicilienne (Andraud - self arr. for clarinet in Bb)
Massenet, Jules: Meditation from Thais (Fischer - arr. Isaac, Merle)
Poot, Marcel: Arabesque (Leduc)
Other suggestions?

Carson Cooman: Lyric Pieces (for A or Bb), charming work well suitable for church. It's $30 and takes a while to order from Lauren Keiser.

The middle three of the Finzi Bagatelles might be good for church (say collection time or communion) or a the second of the Hurlestone Characteristic pieces or the first of the Stanford intermezzi. Just a few that occur to me off the top if my head.

The Stoltzman "Aria" has terrible page turns in the Clarinet part. Plan on taking yours directly to the cop shop so that you can set up to play through 'til the next break in the flow.

These are all great suggestions - I passed them on and at the very least the clarinetist's mother is thrilled.
