I want to play one on my recital.
I've been fooling with theHarvey 3 Gershwin tunes and we can't forget
stravinsky. but are there any other good ones I should explore?

Monolog no.3 by Erland Van Koch,Capriccio by Sutermeister,Lied by Lucian Berio,Prelude by Krzysztof Penderecki,Abime des Oiseaux from Quatuor la find du temps by Messian,Sonata by Edison Denisov(very difficult) Kleine Herleiken and In Freunschaft by Stockhausen(both very difficult),The seven Brightness by Peter Maxwell Davies. The last three pieces are I would say on the tougher side and would rate above The Nielsen concerto in difficulty.

You can buy Kovacs hommages clarinet solo book which has several to choose from. Also there is
Willson Osborn - Rhapsody
Hovhaness Lament
I think you will find this page useful to peruse some of the possibilities.

I agree with the Gordon Jacob Five Pieces recommendation.
Another nice selection is Tema Med Variationer (Op. 14) by the Danish composer Jørgen Bentzon.

Many very good recommendations made above. I love the Kovacs book, many choices and styles in one place. What style do you want and what level of difficulty? Big difference between The Jacobs, Osborn and several others. I also am a big fan for the Harvey and Suttermiester. ESP http://eddiesclarinet.com

The Sutermeister Capriccio is excellent, tonal music, not too difficult technically. It calls for good musicianship and the ability to play with some humor.
The Rose etudes, particularly the 32, are fine music. A group of three or four could make a nice second-half set, and one of the quick ones (say #2) would be a good encore.

Iceland Clarinet wrote,
"Are the 5 pieces by Gordon Jacob really used by professionals on their recitals ?"
Well yes, I use them in my Trio recitals, it gives the oboist and bassoonist a little rest from what can be a demanding programme. They are nice little pieces. I also use the Harvey, Stravinsky and Harvey.
Great suggestion Tony, I have this piece but have never known where to actually start with it.

If you like extended techniques (esp. multiphonics), Shulamit Ran's piece, "For An Actor: Monologue for Clarinet in A" is great, though rather difficult and 6 pages long.
