Hello!
So I have a bit of a problem here. I received four clarinets from my dad today and they've been in the family for a long time, but we weren't sure how old they were. I was able to trace the two Buffet clarinets to the late 70's, but the two Pruefer clarinets I have no idea. I can't find the the serial number registry anywhere, and it's really bothering me.
Here are the specifics of the instruments. They both are stamped with the G. Pruefer logo and under the name it reads MFR PROV. R. I. I'm not sure what this means.
I also have reason to believe that one is older than the other. The first one has L.P.A engraved on it, and the serial number is 2111. The second one only has the L.P on it (meaning that it's not tuned in A, right??) and the serial number is 1015. The earliest Pruefer clarinet serial number that I could find was 6851, and that was in the 30's. Would I be correct in thinking that a lower number would mean that it's older? I have no idea...
Anyway, it would be nice to find out for sure, so I could really use some help!

Hi Merry,
A quick search of the BBoard and there are a few things on Pruefer Clarinets.
Here was something you might find helpful:
http://test.woodwind.org/clarinet/BBoard/read.html?f=1&i=19928&t=19928
There are other posts on this topic as well, just give it a search!
Dee seems to be quite knowledgeable on the topic. I'd talk to them.
MFR PROV. R. I. - Probably means: Manufactured in Providence, R.I.
Hope that helps!
Michael
