Yikes. I can barely play one by itself, and he is going to play two at the same time. He gave a recital and masterclass at my school last year. He is really a great player and had some very interesting, enlightening things to say during the master class.

Shades of the late jazz virtuoso Roland Rahsan Kirk, who played tenor and alto saxes simultaneously! Incidentally his niece was a student of mine for a couple of years--a lovely and talented young lady!

Mr. Spring is so cool. I love his youtube video where he goes through his warmup routine and uses that crazy tonguing exercise. I can only get it to like 138-ish but he takes it to like 240 single-tongued. He's crazy! But so in a good way haha :)

I've played around with playing Eb and Bb at the same time. This is what happens when boredom sets in when you have to practice both clarinet for band. ;-)

When I took my first teaching job in 1965, in Wautoma, WI, there was a local sax player who played three saxes at one time--two altos and a tenor. As I remember, he had the altos to either side of the tenor playing each alto with his hands and the tenor by changing body positions via some kind of wire rigging. He could do a credable performance of some old swing tunes--"In the Mood" comes to mind--and enjoyed entertaining at local events as well as some of my band classes. He volunteered as a mentor for my high school jazz ensemble by often sitting in helping the kids throught the "hard parts" and played legit sax (is there such a thing??) in a local adult dance band. Three saxes in his mouth at one time--and he sounded good!! Wish I would have kept in contact with him after I left town--he was a wonderful and generous person who never gained any degree of fame, but just did good things........
