Hi all,
Has anyone tried these? How are they? The Chadash is my favorite ringed wood barrel, reputedly, these are even better/warmer, etc. Any opinions???
thanks

They have more depth of sound, quicker response, and seem to project better.

Compression rings are put on the ends of barrels, bells and joints to keep the wood from cracking there. So, if you purchase a ringless barrel, it's more likely to crack.
Just so you're aware the rings are there for a good reason, not to dampen the sound or add expense (which they do).

One trick with ringless models is to make them a bit thicker. The other is that you have to be selective with the wood and also let the material cool between steps (cutting billet, piloting the bore, making sockets, turning the outside, then finalizing the bore). If you rush the process, stresses occur.

I used to use Chadash barrels with the rings but I prefer the Backun barrels with the wood rings to the Chadash ringless. I like the tone, tuning and projection better but you will get different opinions from every one because everyone had different needs and tastes. I tried at least a dozen Backuns for each of the three clarinets I use them on before I found what worked for me. Every single barrel from every manufacture is somewhat different. I've been using them for at least five years now and never had a crack. I have three, two for each of my Buffets and one for my Selmer. The only way to tell if it's for you is to try them.
