Hi,
My private teacher recently encouraged me to try the Bonade inverted. Does anyone have experiences with this one? I think it's my Luyben plastic, with the little dots. I ordered one from the WW and it should come soon. Thanks.

The only experiences i've had with Bonade inverted ligatures is that they sound quite bright and slip up on almost any mouthpiece i've ever seen them used on.
Besides that, the rails usually aren't parallel and on the same plane. So one end of one of the rails tends to dig into the reed instead of jsut both rails laying flat against the reed.

Bonade ligatures inverted or non-inverted have two pararell rails.I have a gold plated non-inverted one(purchased about 15 years ago) and a nickel inverted one(purchased 2 months ago).Old one is quite OK,but I was very,very dissapointed at the poor quality of the new one.As Daniel stated,it is shaped irreguller,and cannot sit straight to reed.I nearly became mad!Maybe your teacher is speaking about old inverted ligatures of high quality.

Try the BG inverted ligature. I've been using the silver plated one some time and am very pleased with.

My only experience with a Bonade was exactly opposite; gripped fine, sounds darker than my Rovner & Luyben, and the rails are perfectly parallel (to the eye, anyway). Two people have been using this for 5 years. The only problem it that it's stretched out a bit now.
I've heard of the lack of QC in the Bonade - this just about proves it.

I've been using a modified bonade inverted lig for about 15 years -- and I love it. I've tried many other ligs but none seem to have the same response as the bonade. I've modified the lig by cutting out the center section between the bands - this results in four "pads" holding the reed instead of two long parallel rails. You can do this mod yourself or have a jeweler do it (as it did). All of the clarinetists in the Detroit Symphony use this lig (and I think each of them is modified as mine is). I did, however, purchase a new one about a year ago and the quality is not quite as good as my old one. But as soon as I have it modified, there should be no problems. Due to the recent quality problems with these ligs, I would suggest buying one from a store that has a few in stock and select the best one.

I use a Vandoren inverted metal ligature on both my B-flat and bass clarinets; the Vandoren is similar to a Bonade inverted, but I like it a bit better. I go back and forth between the Vandoren inverted metal and the Rovner fabric ligatures -- I'm still not sure which I like better for playing qualities, but I think the metal ligature LOOKS better with the crystal mouthpieces I use, so that's what I'm playing on at the moment. The Bonade inverted ligature is certainly a good one, and worth a try.

I have played on a regular Bonade for 2 years now, and love it. It took a lot of tries before I found that it worked best for me. I tried the Luyben plastic and thought that the sound was way too bright.... I played on the Rovner for awhile, but found that the Bonade helped my articulation and it also had a darker sound. I also tried the Vandoren Optium(sp?) and thought that it was nice....a bit more expensive.

I have used a bonade inverted ligature for about 8 years now. I love mine, however I cannot comment on the new ones. Most of the students at the university of Tennessee use them, but they have had theirs for quite awhile as well. Maybe if your teacher really wants you to get one, you should try to find someone selling an older one to ensure its quality. ~Christi

If you use thick talon(heel) reeds such as V12 and Zonda,a good Bonade will resonate with reed splendidly.For your information I tried these:
1)Hite mouthpiece
2)Vandroen B40
3)Pomarico grenadilla
4)Vandoren B45 and B44
5)Kasper-Cicero
6)Selmer C85
7)Gilliotti
8)Greg-Smith
9)Vandoren 2RV
10)Vandoren 5RV
Maybe several others.

If there is a decline in the quality of the recent Bondade ligatures, you should try Bob Scotts ligatures. They have the same concept of Bonades, perhaps even better. They are hand made and the quality is very good.

The only thing is the price! Bonades go for $15 here. The hand made ligs might go for a lot more.

I couldn't wait to open the box! As soon as I got it on and adjusted, I bellowed out the sweetest G! Then I went up the A, the clearness and darkness echoed through the room! Then I doodled and doodled around with it and found that it was simply dark and wonderful! I guess you could say a like my new Bonade. The quality isn't all that bad. The only thing that bothers me is that the screws (what you hold onto to tighten)have big diameters and they're harder to tighten. I just replaced them with my Luyben screws. Thanks for all of help!
