I was wondering if it would be advisable to study with Howard Klug? After all, he's written this method called the "Clarinet Doctor" that my friend has been raving about. I'm curious what his teaching specialty is, band or orchestra? I've never heard of him as a orchestral player but i heard he's taught all over the country. Thanks alot guys, I appreciate it :)

He's now a professor of Clarinet at Indiana University (hopefully the college I'll be attending to major in music:-) ). My private teacher studied under him when she went through good ol' IU. I don't know a whole lot about him, I think he's good. If you email me I can find his email address and give it to you. Good luck!

I have heard that he approaches playing problems in a scientific manner, with a clear and descriptive approach. I think that approach would have worked well for me, had I studied with him. Other students function better with general images of how things should work and sound. If you think you are an analyzer who likes to break down issues of clarinet playing into details, then Klug may suit you. If you are an intuitive player, his teaching style may not suit you.
