I was just on Napster and thinking how hard it is for a classical music lover to get ahold of some decent music, when an idea struck me. Why not create a website from which people can download their favorite clarinet recordings. I have a semi-extensive library and I could start a decent site, but I'd need help. Would people rip some of their Clarinet CDs and send me the mp3s? What do you people think of this idea?

Well, I think I'll go ahead and get started on it. With all the copyright infringement going on already, I don't think publishers are going to really go after one site in particular, especially a clarinet one used by a group of friends. I'll get a' crackin'.

Sorry, but just because another person (or many) infringes doesn't make it right. How would you like it if you made a recording & someone started making unauthorized copies, ging the illegal copies away to other people without payment of a royalty, etc.

A minority of wrongs is wrong. A majority or wrongs is a lot of wrongs.

You know its unauthorized, that its not right to do it, yet you wish to continue on a path just because you might be a small wrongdoer & there are bigger fish to fry?

... thats not a good idea. History is full of plenty of examples of this. people who follow you are foolish. I won't wish you good luck.

Quido, if you do create such a site, you'll not be able to advertise it here. Thought I'd let you know that.

I started an Internet Radio site a while back that featured a lot of clarinet music. It's not up right now, but FYI, basic licensing for non-downloadable music was about a thousand dollars a year. Distributing songs, even if you get permission, will cost significantly more.
